To get a turbo boost at the start of a race, do not hold the acceleration button down prior to the race starting. Wait until just after the number 2 in the countdown disappears, then hold A. If done right, you will receive a turbo boost as soon as the race starts.

When in Time Trial mode, if you choose a kart with a low 'Items' attribute, you'll get only one mushroom for the race. A medium value for 'items' will get you two, whereas a full bar for 'Items' will net you three.

On Mario Circuit in the Nitro GP, if you hit a goomba with a shell, a mushroom will pop out. If you run over the mushroom, you get a boost equivelant to using a mushroom obtained by an item box.

At the end of the level there are some hairpin turns. Instead of following the road use a mushroom to jump over the hills. If you have 2 mushrooms, use them both to get a maximum boost. A good way to gain time if you have 2 mushrooms.
