How:
First of all, yes this WILL work on any Pokemon game. OK, so first, trade the Pokemon you want to keep to a friend's game, or if you have a compatible game yourself, use that. You should trade it for a really weak Pokemon that you don't care about, as after the trick is done, you will never see that Pokemon again. Anyway, start a new game as planned. Then make your way to the first Pokemon Center, and trade the Pokemon back for a weak Pokemon! It'll take some badges to make it obey depending on what level it is, but at least you'll have your beloved Pokemon!
