Retro Game Cheats for Final Fantasy IX (PlayStation)
Effect: Skip FMV Sequences
When:
During the game
How:
If you wish to skip an FMV sequence (they can get a bit annoying at times), open your Playstation cover (or for PS2, open the disk tray) and wait for the disc to stop spinning. Close the lid or disk tray and the game will skip the FMV sequence.

This is useful when you are trying to obtain the Excalibur 2, as the clock is always ticking.

Effect: Excalibur 2 (Steiners Weapon) The Correct Way
When:
During the game
How:
Several people I have noticed have tried to explain how to do this, but all are incorrect. The real way to do it is this:

Reach the terrace in Memoria in under 12 hours (total game hours, you don't have to do it in one go), and a boss should be there. Defeat Lich and check the second pillar from the right. A ! should appear over Zidanes head if the game is still under 12 hours. Press X and you will find Steiner's most powerful weapon! Using the Skip FMV Sequences cheat will help you to do this.

Effect: Get a second Namingway Card
When:
During the Card Tournament in Treno
How:
Yes there is a second namingway card apart from the one Kuja drops in Desert Palace, and this is how to get it:

Either: during Vivi's ATE "How He Ended Up Here", choose not to go home or choose not to watch ATE "How He Ended Up Here" (and do not choose any of the other ATEs on the list).
Then the ATE "Hippo's Prize" appears; choose to watch it and you will play against Mario of the Slums in the second round of the card tournament and he will use the Namingway card, but watch out! because it is a good card and you may want to save your game first!

Effect: Secret Chocobo treasure
When:
Whilst riding Choco (CD4)
How:
To begin, return to Quan's Dwelling on the Mist Continent. Search the edge of the platform overlooking the ocean, where you can see the foaming water below. Decide to try a Dead Pepper, and Zidane reappears on the World Map riding Choco on the platform. Using the Dead Pepper causes Choco to dive into the bubbling waters, retrieving the treasure.
There are a total of 3 cracks, and 4 areas with bubbles on the world map. Also, there are places where you have to dig into a crack to get in, ie. Mognet Central and Chocobo's Paradise.
On Disc 4, use Choco's SEA ability to head to where the Shimmering Island once stood. There are no bubbles on the sea as a guide, so keep moving until Choco is positioned exactly on the dot where "Shimmering Island" is still indicated on the World Map (when you press the SELECT button). The area in which you can find the treasure is much smaller than the dot indicates, so you might have to try many times. When you use a Dead Pepper, Choco uncovers the greatest cache of them all! This stash includes Zidane's Ultima Weapon, the strong Maximillian armour, and the ultra-rare Invincible Card!
