How:
Collect at least 20 crowns in all six stages. A box with a question mark in it should appear over Stage 1. If you choose it, you will be able to play any of the bosses without playing through their respective stages first

When you've just entered a room with hardly any life energy showing on the bar.
How:
Save your game at that point (press START, then select save from the menu). Then go to the main menu (START then EXIT), select LOAD and load the slot you saved in. You should now be at the point of where you saved the game, but with a full life energy bar.
