Here's a cheat that's so old, it may as well be new. The classic NES cheat, where you pause the game and press Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A still gives you full weaponry. This works on both Gradius 1 and 2. The only drawback is that you're limited to doing this once per round. |
