While controlling your character, drive into an item box and immediately pause the game as soon as the items start to change in the box. The roulette action of the items will stop. Resume the game and immediately press Z or C-Down. The box will usually stop on the item after the item that was displayed on the pause screen. Keep spinning or, if you are lucky, land on the item that was on the pause screen. Just take some time to study the order in which the items appear to select the desired item. |

Once the race has begun, turn around, and go into the cave. Drive back until you are underneith the 2nd torch. Then turn around and get up to full speed in the direction of the start line. When you are getting close to the exit of the cave, look to your left. There is a sharp corner made by the grassy hill outside, and the wall of the cave, and the edge of the track comes up to meet that point. Aim your Kart directly at the corner, and just as you are going to hit it, press R to jump into the corner. There are many results that can occure from doing this. 1) you will go through the corner, and hit the wall behind it (the left wall of the cave that you see when entering the cave from the bridge), thus spinning out. 2) You will hit the top of the wall behind the corner, and spin out, but will be granted 3/4 or the lap. This is ok, but not good enough!! 3) you will go OVER the wall behind the corner and fall 100's of feet down into some green water. The Lakatu will pull you up out of the water, and set you in one of two places: (a) by the water at the end of the first straight-away, thus granting you 1/8 of a lap, or (b) setting you just behind the finish line, granting you 99% of the lap.
This trick requires a little practice, took me about 20 minutes to perfect the angle and timing of the jump. When you have it down, you will get a 15 - 20 sec lap. And once the Lakatu sets you behind the line, just cross it to complete one lap, then turn around and head into the cave to do it again! |

This trick ONLY works on Grand Prix. When you come to the second train crossing, instead of continuing down the track, turn left onto the tracks). Do not get hit by the oncoming trains, this will defeat the purpose of the short-cut. To avoid them, stay on the very edge of the tracks without going onto the little down slop (this may move you over into the fence and stop you momentarily). When you are inside the train tunnel, stay on the right hand side, closest to the finish line, and you will suddenly enter your next lap. It is advisable to only do this when you have a star. The space is very tight inside the tunnel and it is easy to get hit. |

Two easy short-cuts on Yoshi Valley |
| When: |
At the big loop once outside the maze. And near the finish line. |
| How: |
The first is a valuable short-cut which can help you make up for lost time in the twisted maze. Once you emerge from the maze, and are approaching the giant loop, which has cliffs on either side, watch the fencing on either side of you, and stay near the right-hand side. Be prepared to make a sharp turn to the left. As soon and the fencing comes to an end, while keeping your foot on the acceleration, slam on the breaks and turn hard to the left. Let go of the breaks before you have completeld the turn, as you will still need some speed to make the jump. The loop ahead has come back around, and passed right next to the path you are on, so if your timing and speed is right, hit R to jump just as you are leaving the path, and you will land on the other path, having removed the big loop from the equation.
The second short-cut can be used if you have a Triple-Mushroom. After crossing the final bridge, instead of heading up the path to the finish line, turn into the grass on the left, and keep near the fence. Use the first mushroom just as you leave the path. Use the other two mushrooms, each after the previous one is dying. Although you are far to the left of the finish line, it will count every time, and you will end up at the gate entrance to the maze again, eliminating more track and time from your race. |

When the course is about to make a sharp turn to the right, and head off toward the big jump, use a skid/slide speed boost into the wall on the left. If you successfully pull off the jump, you will be right in the middle of the 180 degree turn just before the final stretch of the race. This can be combo'ed with the Advanced 8 second lap-cheat in time trial mode to attain the under-a-minute time (like I said, don't get too greedy, use the advanced cheat only once or twice, then come around and use this other wall jump for your final lap) Good luck Mario Gamerz!! |

Turn around as soon as the race begins and go into the cave. Turn back around towards the finish line once you are under the 3rd torch on the wall. Look at the corner at the left side of the cave's exit. It is made by the grassy hill outside, and the wall of the cave inside. The very edge of the track comes to meet this corner. Get up to full speed, aim your kart at this corner, and hit R to jump into it (you want to jump a little to the left, away from the finish line, with your right tire, not the center of the kart, going through the corner). If your positioning is right, you will go through a little wall, and behind the far left wall (the one right to your left as you first enter the cave from the Bridge Entrance). But be careful, you don't want to turn too far to the left as you jump, or you'll hit the far left wall, and land back in the cave, missing the secret. If you go behing the wall, you will then fall down for a long ways and land into some mirky-green water far below the course.
The Lakitu will pick you up and put you in one of three places: (1) inside the cave, down near the bridge entrance, thus granting you 3/4 of the lap. (2) behind the finish line just at the exit of the cave (granting you nothing). (3) at the first turn in the course, up past the start line (granting you nothing).
You want to be put at (1) every time. If you are put at (2) or (3), it is because you weren't vearing far enough to the left, away from the finish line. Once at (1), go through the cave, and repeat the jump. The second time, you will complete lap 1 as you are falling toward the water. Once you're at (1) on your final lap, you do not want to do the jump again, just go through the cave exit, and cross the finish line. If done correctly this will give you the following aproximate lap times: 25, 15, 15. |
